How To Keep Your New Year’s Resolution!

I don’t like to set New Year’s Resolution. I like to set goals, something that I?work?through the year to get to or improve. It’s something about the phrase “New Year’s resolutions” that doesn’t feel right to me. The phrase has such negative feel to it, feels like it’s bound to be failed, at least I feel that way. According to Antony Robins, January 15th is the cut off day for new year’s resolutions. By this day 95% of the people who have a new year’s resolution have already broken it.

So I set goals not resolutions and I pay a lot of attention to my goals. They don’t have a set date to complete but I have a fun metric to make it work and I measure?my progress. I have a simple fun system, everything I like to improve, good habits that I want to establish throughout the year, get one point for each day that I do them, the score turns into zero when I miss a day. I don’t like to see zeros so I do my best to keep them going.

Steps To Keep Your New Year’s Resolution

Be realistic

Setting a realistic resolution is the key to success. If you have been eating unhealthy of course you can’t start eating healthy every day?as of January first. You need to plan ahead and make it natural. So maybe your goal should be eating healthy three or four days a week and then build on that success.

You need to build small successes to be motivated to go on and continue.

Set measurable goals

If your new year’s resolution is to work out more. You need to be clear on how many days a week and for how long are you going to hit the gym or workout however you do it. You need to have a chart and measure the days you followed through and actually worked out.

It’s easier to succeed if you are looking at your chart every day, then you can catch up if you missed a day or two. If you don’t have it registered?somewhere then missing a day will turn into days, weeks and months and you tell yourself I will get to it. It is easy to overestimate how much we work out if we keep track in our mind.

Plan how you are going to get there

Planning ahead is a big one for me. I need to have a clear map of where I’m going and where I want to be at the end of the year. If your new year’s resolution is to be zer0-waste or live more sustainably then planning your steps to move towards zero waste helps a lot. Starting with a challenge or with a group of friends is a good way to start that specific resolution. Check out?31 Day Zero Waste Challenge?I know we are not exactly on day 1 but I think you can start anywhere. If your goal is zero waste living then this challenge can be a good start.

Stick to the plan

This step is the most crucial and difficult one to do and follow through. Let’s face it life happens and we tend to lose ourselves in the day to day life and kind of forget our goals, plans and even sometimes our dreams.

I find it easier to follow through when I’m working on a goal with a friend or if I have announced it to my friends and family or even better on social media.

Although if you are planning on announcing on social media it’s better to have a set and tight deadline. As you know things move fast on social media you want your friends to keep you accountable and not forget about you.

Bottom line you need to find some sort of accountability partner.

2018 goalsMy personal AND professional goal this year is to help you get to your goals of zero-waste and healthy eating.

I’m working on both of these goals personally and let’s say I need a lot of motivation to blog, that’s why I chose this goal. This is a 3 in 1 goal for me 😀

To do so I’m planning to bring to you contents related to those topics every week.

With this public announcement, I covered my “stick to the plan” step and the planning. How I’m going to get there is planned on paper and my chart is set. I am confident I can do this and by the end of 2018, I will have at least 52 blog posts on any of these topics.

Now it’s your turn to either rethink your resolution and start over again or to continue measuring and rocking it as you go.

Wish you much luck!
